As a strategy consultant, Matthew advises academic researchers, SMEs, and research consortia on scientific communication, research
funding acquisition, and long-term project roadmaps. He combines over a decade of lab experience with five years of strategic
planning to improve research planning and outcomes. He supports public and private research groups by building international
partnerships, mentoring emerging scientists, and strengthening their funding acquisition pipelines.
Matthew’s academic journey spans institutions including the Max Planck Institute, Freie Universität Berlin, and universities in
the U.S. His research focused on chemical methodology and synthesis, automation, and flow chemistry. His work bridged theory,
mechanistic understanding and application, from late-stage functionalisation of drug-like molecules to the development of scalable
syntheses in flow.
As former CTC Head of Strategy, he interviewed PIs across academia and industry and identified recurring barriers in chemical
research and observed that administrative and communication tasks pull time away from core scientific work. That insight shaped
his current entrepreneurial work: helping researchers translate ideas into competitive proposals with clear work plans to fund
their research. He also draws on a network of partners across Europe, Asia, and the USA to build collaborative international,
interdisciplinary teams.

MBP R&C has expanded to include dedicated support for educational content and strategic outreach. Sidra Kanwal has taken up the lead role to translate complex funding application processes into practical easy-to-follow workflows that help researchers and teams navigate funding applications with more confidence and efficiency.
Content and Marketing Lead
Sidra received a DAAD scholarship in 2020 to pursue doctoral studies in Germany, joining Prof. Klinger's lab at the Institute
of Pharmacy of the Freie Universität Berlin. Her doctoral research focused on establishing structure-property
relationships in sulfonium-based antimicrobial polymers.
Prior to her PhD, she earned her MS in chemistry at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan in 2018, under
the supervision of Prof. Dr. Basit Yameen.
Besides her strong interest in research, Sidra is committed to mentorship and outreach. She has supported students in
navigating research challenges and exploring career paths, including through her involvement in the BCP mentoring program at
FU Berlin. She is also passionate about expanding access to education for young girls in Pakistan and has volunteered with
summer schools in underprivileged areas with limited access to quality education.
She has now joined MBP R&C as Content and Marketing Lead, where she is developing educational packages to help researchers
secure research funding and overcome other common career hurdles.
