As a strategy consultant, Matthew Brian Plutschack, Ph.D. advises academic researchers, SMEs, and research consortia on scientific
communication, research funding acquisition, and long-term project roadmaps. As founder of a consultancy blending human workflow
optimization with practical digital tools, Matthew brings expertise from both the lab and strategic management to optimize
research outcomes. He serves as a project strategist and consultant for public and private research groups, building international
partnerships, mentoring emerging scientists, and driving funding success.
As an academic, Matthew’s scientific career spans over a decade, with experience from institutions like the Max Planck Institute,
Freie Universität Berlin, and universities in the U.S. His research focused on chemical synthesis, automation, and advanced
fluidic tools for enhancing reactivity. As part of the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) initiative, he authored
the Technology Transfer Concept that was central to securing €1.2B in funding. His expertise bridges theory and practice, from
late-stage functionalization of drug-like molecules to strategic development of scalable R&D workflows.
As CTC Head of Strategy, Matthew interviewed principal investigators across academia and industry, identified common challenges in
chemical research—notably tedious administrative and communicative tasks that detract from core scientific work. This insight
inspired his current entrepreneurial pursuit to develop tools and services aimed at eliminating “pain points” and “time thieves.”
Through his consulting business, Matthew collaborates with clients to streamline operations, maximize efficiency, and free up
valuable time for impactful research.
Beyond consulting, Matthew contributes to various research initiatives, leveraging a network of partners across Europe, Asia, and
the USA. He continues to refine his entrepreneurial model through practice and is a self-taught student again, learning the skills
necessary to build a web-based platform to intelligently automate his own day-to-day workflows.
